FAQS ON THE PROVISIONAL SAFEGUARD DUTY

  • What is the provisional Safeguard Duty on imported vehicles?

It is a tariff imposed by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on imported passenger and light commercial vehicles as mandated by the Department of Trade and Industry Administrative Order No. 20-11.

  • What is the rate of the provisional safeguard duty imposed by the BOC?

    Safeguard Duty Rate
    Passenger vehicles P78,400 (VAT inclusive)
  • Which Mazda vehicles are affected by the provisional Safeguard Duty?

In accordance with the provisional Safeguard Duty, Mazda Philippines will be collecting a refundable security deposit beginning March 1, 2021, for every purchase of these vehicles:

    Model Security Deposit
Mazda3Sedan Premium and Sportback Premium variants P70,000
Mazda MX-5 Soft Top, Retractable Fastback, and Club Edition

To support its valued clients, Mazda Philippines will shoulder the VAT of the security deposit, bringing it down to P70,000 from the original VAT inclusive amount of P78,400.

  • What Mazda vehicles are exempted from this?

No security deposit is required on the Mazda2, Mazda3 Sedan Elite, and Sportback Elite variants, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-30, CX-9, and BT-50, as the current stocks arrived in the country prior to February 1, 2021.

The Mazda CX-5 and CX-8 are exempted from DAO No. 20-11, thus no security deposit is also required.

  • How will it affect Mazda clients?

By March 1, 2021, a security deposit will be collected when you make the down payment on a Mazda3 Sedan Premium, Mazda3 Sportback Premium, Mazda MX-5 Soft Top, or Mazda MX-5 RF. An acknowledgment receipt will be given upon the payment of the security deposit. Your Mazda sales consultant can provide more details about this.

  • What happens to the security deposit?

If the DTI does not impose a definitive duty rate, the security deposit will be refunded to the client through their dealership. However, if a duty rate is imposed, it will be treated as an additional payment to the purchased vehicle.

  • How do clients refund their security deposit?

They may claim their security deposit at their respective dealers by presenting a government-issued ID and the acknowledgment receipt that was issued to them when they made the down payment. Please stay tuned for further announcements on this website and the Mazda Philippines Facebook page. Thank you.

MAZDA M HYBRID TECHNOLOGY

  • What is Mazda Hybrid Technology?

It is an innovative evolution of hybrid car technology that uses an integrated electric motor which captures kinetic energy that is normally wasted during braking.

Instead of power being unused, the kinetic energy is converted into electric energy that is stored in the vehicle’s Lithium-ion battery. The integrated electric motor uses this electric energy to simultaneously propel the vehicle along with its engine, among several other uses. Using this stored energy reduces the engine’s load, thus improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

  • How does the Mazda Hybrid Technology work?

When coasting or decelerating, the integrated electric motor harnesses kinetic energy to produce electric energy, which is stored in the vehicle’s onboard Lithium-ion battery.

This electric energy is used to propel the vehicle forward in tandem with its internal combustion engine, provide motor propulsion from a standstill when pulling away, and power the car’s electrical systems like air-conditioning, lighting, infotainment, and many more using surplus energy generated when the battery is already full.

  • Do I need to charge the battery?

No. The battery charges while you’re driving. It never takes power away from the engine.

  • How do I maintain the car?

The periodic maintenance service schedule for Mazda Hybrid vehicles is every 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first. All brand-new Mazda vehicles come with a Free 5-Year Service Plan, so maintaining your Mazda Hybrid vehicle is practically worry-free.
