"For the executive who still longs to drive himself, it’s clear that there’s only one real choice. This matchup between the Honda Accord and Mazda6 has produced a new executive sedan king. And in this case, the Mazda6 rules the roost." – CarGuide.ph
“The Mazda CX-5 SkyActiv-D is the best, again if only by a whisker. You get the impressive build quality from Mazda, the sharp, reassuring and confidence-inspiring driving experience from the brand, the SkyActiv technology that improves efficiency and performance, and crucially, a diesel engine that is truly golden.” – Inquirer.net
“Yes, Philippines, the Skyactiv-D is now here and it’s going to transform how you’ll drive…173 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. And these numbers come from 2.2 liters of displacement with twin turbos and variable valve timing. It’s the automotive equivalent of having your cake and eating it too.” – CarGuide.ph
“The end result is that Mazda has achieved a best-of-both-worlds scenario by combining excellent performance and impressive fuel efficiency without sacrificing the drivability of their gasoline engine counterparts – a combination only previously enjoyed in high-end Euro brands. Thanks to Mazda’s SkyActiv-D, not anymore.” – Manila Bulletin
“We drove on the second day–naturally with a high expectation. That expectation was surpassed, incredibly enough. Our compliment was more flattering: “It felt like BMW diesel, maybe even better.” The power delivery, the smoothness, the almost imperceptible NVH levels–this is a world-class diesel engine that does feel expensive..” – TopGear.com.ph
“It still feels like a regular 6,” writer Patrick Tadeo observed. “The refinement is that of a gasoline engine.” It’s actually better, because it has more torque at 420Nm”– TopGear.com.ph
“Overall, it’s safe to say that the SkyActiv-D Mazda 6 and CX-5 are on the forefront in terms of diesel engine technology. Aside from being refined and quiet, Mazda’s 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine is a power unit that combines performance, fuel efficiency, and clean emission. Indeed, the diesel-powered Mazdas could be considered as game changers.” – AutoDeal.com.ph
“The CX-5 managed to introduce many firsts for Mazda and as a result, has become a shining example that a vehicle engineered by a company that defies convention can still achieve mainstream success. The pinnacle of the CX-5's achievement though is perhaps the introduction of Skyactiv-D. More than just breathing new life to a well-told story, by defying what a diesel engine is and what it can do, Mazda is proving that oil burners can be both sporty and clean.” – CarGuide.ph
The Mazda 2.2L Skyactiv-D is the most technologically advanced clean diesel engine from Mazda that emits ultra-low NOx emission that complies with stringent Euro 6 standards without expensive NOx after treatment. Its lowest in the world 14:1 compression enables reduction in engine weight and mechanical friction, resulting in world-beating fuel efficiency. High torque, smooth and linear power delivery is contributed by two-stage twin turbochargers—one small plus one large turbo, achieving high torque and response at low speeds, and high power at high speeds.Learn more:

Reduction of harmful emissions helps clear international standards
SKYACTIV-D complies with the Euro Stage 6 standards that went into general effect in 2012, as well as the North American Tier2Bin5, which is said to be the world’s most stringent standard.
Eliminates the need for costly after-treatment systems
SKYACTIV-D achieves top-level environmental performance without the aid of expensive purification systems that use rare metal. This eliminates the need to replenish the liquid additive conventional diesel engines require, thereby reducing running costs.
New technology ensures cold-start capability and reliable operation
SKYACTIV-D realizes ideal combustion by using a relatively low compression ratio, and this realizes cleaner emissions and higher energy efficiency. Lowering the compression ratio also eliminates the need for added structural reinforcement, and this made possible a 10% weight reduction that places SKYACTIV-D on par with the weight of petrol engines in the same class.
Employing one small and one large turbo that operate selectively according to driving conditions allows SKYACTIV-D to achieve smooth torque output and responsiveness throughout the engine’s RPM range.
