January 22, 2014—- Mazda took home the coveted Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI)’s Philippines Car of the Year award for the new Mazda6, and three more category awards during the award ceremony this evening.
The Mazda 6 executive sedan, the CX-5 2.0-Liter Two-Wheel Drive PRO and the CX-5 2.5-Liter All-Wheel Drive SPORT emerged on top of the list of 45 newly launched cars tested by CAGI. The organization is composed of more than 35 prominent motoring media personalities from various publications and broadcast entities in the Philippines who rate and test brand new cars every year to determine the best vehicles available to Philippine motorists.
This is the first time in CAGI’s 10-year history that the same nameplate was adjudged the Car of the Year Philippines twice. The last time the Mazda 6 was feted the same award was in 2005 when the Mazda6 first entered the country. The Mazda’s flagship car model was also adjudged the 2013-2014 Executive Car of the Year.
The CX-5 2WD PRO likewise became a consecutive year winner by taking the 2013-2014 Compact Two-Wheel Drive Crossover Wagon of the Year title for the second straight year. While the newly launched CX-5 AWD gained CAGI’s nod as the 2013-2014 Compact All-Wheel Drive Crossover Wagon of the Year.
Visibly elated with the honor, Berjaya Auto Philippines and Mazda Philippines President and CEO, Steven Tan, along with the Mazda management team, received the trophies. “It is truly humbling to see our vehicles be declared the best in their respective categories,” said Tan. He adds, “We accept the awards on behalf of the engineers, designers and the people who build them in Japan. Mazda products speak for themselves. Ultimately it is the customers who win.”
The Mazda 6’s striking design along with the promise of power and fuel-efficiency from its suite of SKYACTIV chassis, drivetrain and engine technologies were the key reasons CAGI chose the much sought-after executive sedan as its COTY pick. The motoring journalist judges were also quick to point out that anyone who has driven the Mazda 6 would rate the car highly in terms of design, build quality and driving dynamics. “CAGI members were all impressed by what both the Mazda 6 and the CX-5’s SKYACTIV Technology had to offer”, said CAGI President Ferman Lao.
With the Mazda CX-5 2WD PRO, CAGI commented that the addition of i-STOP automatic start/stop feature to improve fuel economy made the already excellent compact crossover even better. The CX-5 AWD likewise garnered rave reviews from CAGI members as it topped its category besting three other newly launched crossovers. “With its solid engineering and car-like handling, it’s so easy to drive around and forget you’re in a Crossover,” said the CAGI presenters during the awarding ceremonies.
All three award-winning Mazda models feature the Japanese company’s KODO: Soul of Motion design language and the latest SKYACTIV technologies designed to increase fuel efficiency and engine power output while delivering superb driving dynamics. Along with the rest of Mazda’s offerings, they also come with the YOJIN 3 Total Care package which provides free periodic maintenance service, as well as parts and labor, for every brand new Mazda for three years or 60,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. This package, which comes standard with every Mazda purchase, also offers free three-year roadside assistance and concierge services aside from either a three-year or up to 100,000 kilometers bumper-to-bumper warranty.
