The Mazda2 SKYACTIV continues to challenge the commonly held notion that value must equate to size. After winning the prestigious 2014-2015 Car of the Year – Japan, and the 2015 Car of the Year – Philippines, Mazda’s premium subcompact offering has proven that the powerful vitality of KODO – Soul of Motion design, and the combination of driving pleasure and environmental and safety performance offered by SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, are key drivers in the brand’s goal to connect on a deep emotional level with customers.

For 2017, the Mazda2 SKYACTIV once again aims to shatter all notions of the subcompact class with new features that further enhance its appeal and elevate its performance. With the introduction of Mazda’s groundbreaking SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS through the segment-first application of G-Vectoring Control (GVC) in the Mazda2, smoother and more efficient vehicle movement is realized through more precise steering, better control and less fatigue. Along with refinements made to the suspension and steering systems, driving fun and peace of mind are further heightened reinforcing the fact that the Mazda2 is the best-in-class when it comes to driving and feel.

“Since its Philippine launch in 2015, the Mazda2 has grown up to be a more mature and confident vehicle that respects drivers and passengers alike while continuing to deliver safety and assurance through solid engineering and design,” shares Steven Tan, President and CEO of Bermaz Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles and parts in the country. He adds, “With the smarter and smoother 2017 Mazda2, we can surely establish stronger bonds with our customers who will find this new model even more invigorating to drive and a pleasure to own.”

Aside from GVC, and Bluetooth connectivity, which are now both standard in all variants of the 2017 Mazda2, essential engineering and design improvements have been integrated to demonstrate Mazda’s commitment to improve its best-selling subcompact’s appeal.

From the manual transmission-equipped Mazda2 S sedan all the way to the soon-to-be-released Premium Series variant, a front sound-insulating windshield together with added insulating materials in the engine compartment together help reduce cabin noise. More noise absorbing and damping material in the liftgate and trunk panels further elevate levels of refinement in the passenger space. These improvements all help reduce NVH-levels thus raising the standard of comfort in the sub-compact class.

With the six-speed automatic SKYACTIV Transmission-equipped Mazda2 V, both sedan and hatchback entries are upgraded with LED fog lights and chrome accents on their bezels. Side-mirror mounted cornering lights have been redesigned to exude a more elegant finish. Silver-colored wheels complement the over-all design cues and contribute to enhancing the new Mazda2’s stance. Inside, a new design pattern highlights the fabric seats while a redesigned and more contoured steering wheel, similar to the all-new CX-5 and CX-9 Premium Crossovers, offers better grip and enhances oneness of the car with the driver. More prominent carbon fiber accents on the dashboard likewise reinforce the Mazda2’s sporty leanings.

For the top of the range Mazda2 R and the upcoming Premium Series lines, their larger 16-inch machine-finished wheels now come with new gunmetal grey accents to distinguish the range from previous years’ models. The design of the leather seats for both trims has also been refined to exude a more premium and refined feel. And to further enhance driver and passenger safety, six airbags are now ready to protect the car’s driver and occupants as they journey through open roads. The Mazda2 R and Premium Series continue to feature Auto On and Off LED headlights, rain sensing wipers and the Mazda Active Driving Display heads-up unit to make for engaging and safer drives.

The highly regarded, Mazda Connect system continues to provide essential vehicle information as well as entertainment options in the V, R and Premium Series variants while promoting road safety by keeping the driver’s eyes on the road ahead. The fuel-efficient 1.5-liter SKYACTIV gasoline engine, tuned to provide spritely performance along with class-leading fuel economy, continues to power the whole Mazda2 range. And as with all other Mazda models sold locally, the 2017 Mazda2 SKYACTIV comes standard with the industry-first YOJIN3 free preventive maintenance for three years or 60,000-kilometers (whichever comes first), concierge service and three-years, bumper-to-bumper warranty.
